Louisiana Green Schools
In 2015, Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans was honored to win first place (elementary division) in the 2014-2015 Louisiana Green Schools Challenge, powered by the U.S. Green Building Chapter Louisiana Chapter (USGBC). USGBC challenged schools to develop and implement a low cost/no cost green project during the school year. In response, Lycée Français implemented a composting program and strengthened its recycling efforts. In addition to recycling and composting, students also learn about the environment and Louisiana’s endangered coastline in the school’s classroom at the Audubon Zoo. Needless to say, Lycée Français is proudly green!
In addition to winning a $1,500.00 cash prize, Lycée was also awarded an Elkay water bottle filling station. Students bring their own water bottles from home and refill throughout the day. So far, over 50,000 disposable plastic bottles have been saved from the landfill!
We will be at Lycée Francais la Nouvelle Orleans on Monday for their Green Schools Challenge Award Presentation! Take a look at the great work they did to win first place in the Elementary School Division.
