Exhibition Statement, PTO Art Show: Prix de Présence Art Exhibition, 2020. Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” – Pablo Picasso
This exhibition examines a child’s perspective of the coronavirus pandemic. Children of the Lycée community were invited to respond with visual art; drawing, painting, or sculpture, to something they have seen, felt, or experienced during the pandemic. The resulting artwork provides an unfiltered look into a child’s mind and ability to accommodate our challenging contemporary circumstances.2020 has been an unprecedented year in countless ways. Previously unimaginable changes regarding health, education, work, friends, and community have impacted families across the globe. An unexpected and abrupt adaptation is taking place that is new for all segments of society. Allowing the youngest members of our community a safe space to document their experiences through art has the potential to benefit us all. As we navigate a path forward with healing, the visual voices and art of our children provide much to consider. La Liaison is pleased to present an exhibition of children’s artwork that highlights a unique perspective on these months of isolation, social distancing, quarantine.
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
