Virtual Workshop 5th Grade: “Freedom of speech, Sense of humor, and satirical cartoons.”
Following the tragedy that took place in France after the murder of Samuel Patty, a French history middle school teacher, the AEFE in partnership with “Cartooning for Peace“, has launched a series of workshops to familiarize students with the role of cartoons as political satire in newspapers. The virtual workshop students participated in last Thursday is entitled ” Freedom of speech, Sense of humor, and satirical cartoons.” This event was organized in conjunction with “La semaine des Lycées Français du Monde (the Week of the Lycées Français around the World)”. Thus, all French accredited schools in North America were invited to participate and it was a great honor to have our school represented by two 5th grade classes. Students had the opportunity to ask questions to the French cartoonist. Mme Séverine and M. Abdel created space for engaging discussions with their students before and after the presentation to address any remaining questions.
